Weldcast Wearplates are advanced composite wear-resistant plates specifically engineered to offer exceptional durability in extremely abrasive environments. They are designed to extend the service life of equipment and machinery operating under high friction, sliding abrasion, and particle impact.
The construction of Weldcast Wearplates is what makes them superior to conventional wear-resistant steels. Each plate consists of a mild steel base onto which a layer of rich chromium carbides and alloy carbides is deposited using special purpose welding machines. This overlay welding process forms a dense, highly wear-resistant layer with a microstructure dominated by M7C3 carbide particles, known for their exceptional hardness and resistance to abrasion.
Unlike heat-treated steels, Weldcast Wearplates achieve their 58–62 HRC hardness through specialized carbides rather than heat treatment alone. This makes them far more consistent and reliable in high-abrasion environments. As a result, they offer 6–8 times the life of regular mild steel plates and 3–4 times the performance of standard heat-treated steels like Hardox—leading to major cost savings in maintenance, replacement, and downtime.
